My nephew died in the early hours of this morning. He was 24, the oldest son of my brother and his wife. It was a freak accident, a competition to see who could hold his breath longest in a swimming pool. He lost consciousness, and his heart couldn't be restarted.
He was a great kid: kind, intelligent and athletic - the kind of son anyone would be proud to have raised. He had so many friends and touched so many lives. This October he and his fiancee planned to be married, starting their lives together, everything ahead of them.
One silly, stupid game - a young person's assumption of being immortal proven otherwise. Another senseless tragedy, another promising life cut short.
And now he's gone.
And there are just no words to make sense of it.
oh my! sorry to hear that, just one silly game turn into disaster. so young to die so sorry fir that.

My goodness. My friends and I used to play that game. It never crossed our minds that something like this could occur. Senseless and there is no real consolation possible for the loss of one so young, except, perhaps, time. I can't even begin to imagine the grief. I am so very sorry.

I wish we could somehow turn back the clock and undo tragedies. When my dear friend's son died in an auto accident when he was just 23, she wrote, "It makes me afraid for everyone I know." She meant that they might have to suffer a terrible tragedy as she was suffering. My thoughts are with you and the young man's family and girlfriend.
