I am reading this now. It's my first book by him and must say how much I am enjoying the story and his prose... Why did I wait so long to read him?

Lynne, You lovely thing, you! That scene is so touchingly beautiful, I agree. The whole book just reaches in and grabs the heart. It's one I'll read over and over. And I will read the play. It's as good as in my Amazon basket as I type! It is the year of Dickens, after all...

Loved this book soooo much I could cry every time I think of the scene where Willie's father bathes him when he comes home from the trenches. You must read the play about Andersen ( as in Hans Christian) and Dickens and I have a spare of another play which I will send you. Us Barryites must stick together and help each other out:-)
