... but considering the Indians squashed my Chicago White Sox today I'm not really a very big fan of that team right now.
Strong words, I know. I cleaned them up for public consumption. Behind the scenes I'm using words that would make a lumberjack blush. I think I may actually have gotten extra creative points for unusual swear combinations. I can't be certain, though. No one who's heard my diatribe has recovered consciousness from the shock yet.
White Sox Home Opener final: 12-5
The pain, the agony, you can't imagine. Well, if you're a baseball fan, maybe you can, but I take it pretty hard when my Sox fall. Losing the home opener's especially harsh. My only consolation is the Cubs fell to the Reds 5-1 (haha! they suck!)
Okay, Indians. We'll see you again Wednesday... And then. Oh, and then...
Welcome to Chicago baseball. I love this game.

Les, another baseball fan! Hurrah, hurrah. I've never been to a season opener, or to the Cross-town Classic (when the Sox play the Cubs, traditionally trouncing them soundly). I get to one regular season game a year if I'm lucky. It's way expensive for a family of five, especially when you add in food. I have to settle for going to watch the minor league local team(Kane County Cougars, a feeder team for the Oakland A's) and watching my Sox on TV (or listening on the radio). If I could I'd go to a ton more games. Alas.

Jill, in Chicago it's pretty much required you pick one of our baseball teams to love and hate the other with a vengeance. You can't like them both. It's just not done. The rivalry is intense here.
The Cubs have a bigger fan base, but I despise them and love the White Sox. This has a lot to do with the fact a dear friend of mine had his ashes scattered on U.S. Cellular Field when he died. It's a moral duty for me to fill the void and support the Sox.
Go Sox!
As for the Trib, yeah, I'm bothered that it's on the block but I'd give the Cubs away to anyone who'd take them...!

Oh, dear. I hate those season openers. Went to a Rangers' opener several years ago (in my favorite ballpark - Arlington, TX) and the first pitch Rick Helling threw was knocked out for a home run. Sigh. But that didn't stop us from going to many, many more games. Now we live in a state without a pro team. Kansas City (or Chicago), here we come!
To move this to books, one of my favorite baseball books is Wait Til Next Year by Dorris Kearns Goodwin. Mike Lupica's Summer of '98 is also very well-written. That was such a great season.

But if you're in Chicago, aren't you supposed to be rooting for the Cubs? Aren't you supposed to be devastated by the news that the Tribune is selling the Cubs at the end of the season?
Or am I really confused and mangling the sports news again? My offspring say I do that alot.
