Joy: thanks very much, and I'd love to read YOUR list.

Danielle: I am a list JUNKIE, too! That's one great thing about this time of year.

Lesley and booklogged: Blogs are so notorious for adding to my own reading lists, and probaby not the best thing for addictive personalities like mine, but I'm enjoying being enabled.

Laura: Rohinton Mistry has been on my list for YEARS. I so hope I'll finally get to A Fine Balance in 2007. Thanks for stopping by!

Fay, Claire Tomalin seems to be able to do no wrong as all her biographies seem to win some prize or other. She's just wonderful.

I'd love to know what you think of Suite Francaise and Christina Stead as well, once you've gotten around to them. Just do be aware of the Stead. It's truly intense.

Loved looking at your list! If you have not read it.....A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry is the best book I ever read in my whole life!

Oh my, I sure did add a lot of books to my TBR list. I've not read one of the ones you've listed, which means I have them to look forward to.

I have to admit that I haven't read any of these books, although a few are sitting on my TBR shelf. Glad to hear they're such good reads!

I love reading these lists! More books to add to my list of need to reads! I have to agree with The Blind Assassin (that is the only book from the list of ten that I read!). I am planning on reading Suite Francaise, too! I also love Ruth Rendell/Barbara Vine--for me it is a given that her stuff is always good!

What a great list of Top Ten Reads! I have many on my TBR List, so I'm glad to see them here.

The Tomalin biography of Dickens & Ternan looks like a must read. Her book about Samuel Pepys was excellent, and her new one about Thomas Hardy has been getting a lot of buzz.

I'm glad you liked _Suite Francaise_ because it's one of my soon-to-be-read books. Christina Stead has been sitting on my shelf for too long, probably for the reasons you give. After Christmas!

Linda, you're entirely welcome! Thank YOU for writing a book I enjoyed reading so much.

So choked, words fail me. Two will have to suffice. THANK YOU. :-)))

Why the alternate spelling of Bluestocking?

    • Bluestocking: a woman having literary or intellectual interests. I know the spelling is alternate, but it's because the standard spelling is already taken several times over. Now you know!
